The Gift of Receiving

How easy is it for you to receive?

Whether it is receiving time, attention, gifts from others or from yourself – do you open up to receiving or do you shut it down?

For many people (myself included) it can be way more comfortable to give than to receive. Living life with a generous spirit feels good, and it brightens the path for others too. In this light, it may seem as though the more we give, the better we will feel – the brighter the world will be.

I’m learning this holds true, if we are also open to giving back to ourselves. When we open up to the idea of giving AND receiving, we balance our energy. We also keep our hearts open to meaningful exchanges with others, and connecting deeper with ourselves.

Life is a balancing act. We allow more peace and balance in our lives by giving freely and receiving with the same level of openness. When we get more comfortable and used to the idea of receiving, it becomes easier to keep giving and sharing our gifts with others from a place of strength and contentedness. When we open up to receiving, we give others the gift of giving, and our exchanges have more flow and momentum – that is what brightens the world.
