Mindfulness and Self-Care

For a while now I have been aware of and experienced firsthand the benefits of yoga, breath, and meditation to release stress and to become more mindful in day to day life. Becoming more mindful in every day life has helped increase my level of enjoyment in life and has helped me stay committed to regular self-care. Last spring, I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about mindfulness and the science behind growing our awareness,  through taking a program through the University of California Berkeley called the ‘Science of Happiness’.

Like learning many new skills and habits in life, regular practice and consistency is key in developing these wonderful tools so that they become habitual. I’ve been wanting to continue developing my mindful muscle as part of my self-care routine. An opportunity came up recently, when my friend invited me to join her at a local  meditation class to learn more about integrating mediation into a  regular practice. To start, it is 10 minutes a day – 10 minutes a day! That’s it. If this sounds enticing and perhaps something you may want to try in your life, here are some great starter guided meditations that may support you in doing just that. Give it a try and see what happens with just 10 minutes a day. Have a peaceful, beautiful day.
