Do what you can and the rest will fall into place.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed when you look at everything left to do that is still in front of you? When was the last time you had the sense of lasting accomplishment and a strong knowing that all is well?

For some people (myself included) there can be a rushed sense of moving through life. This hurried pace leads to a nagging feeling that there is always more that has to be done. The problem with this way of being is that the focus stays on what is left to be done because it’s a constantly moving target. That sense of feeling grounded and peaceful that all is well, can feel like it is always just a bit out of reach. It can feel like relief will only happen when ‘this, that or the other thing’ is complete.

There are a couple of key ways I am learning to avoid falling into the trap of being overwhelmed. The first is the obvious one and that is to be organized, including things like: managing time efficiently, setting good boundaries, knowing when to say no, prioritizing and practicing letting go of what isn’t really all that important. The other big one is to SIMPLIFY. Often the feeling of being overwhelmed comes from trying to do too much, or from having too much sensory overload or distraction (i.e. too much social media, screen time etc.).

The practice I am using to stay simplified and organized is to make my lists of what I want to do in a day, week or month, REALISTIC and in the general direction of where it is I know I MOST want to go. It is liberating to focus our energy on doing what we can do, and releasing worry around every little step it is going to take. Just focus on the key steps you can do today.  It is quite amazing what can happen when you consistently adopt the mindset that you are going to do what you can. Regularly following through with this kind of plan is what it takes to get to where it is you most want to go. More importantly this approach helps to set the stage to actually ENJOY the journey to getting there – and isn’t that what it’s all about?

Enjoying the journey is the best part. What can you do today to adopt a mindset that will allow you to find enJOYment in the journey of reaching your dreams?
