Confidence Booster Series: “Gratitude”
“I am Grateful because…”
This week’s confidence booster is to count our blessings – literally.
Taking stock of the things we are currently grateful for in our lives is a simple yet powerful way of adopting a mindset that’s content and accepting.
There are countless reasons to be grateful: #1 for being alive, for the natural beauty that surrounds us, for the people in our lives and the list could go on and on.
At any moment, in any given day, the reasons for being grateful are all around us just waiting to be uncovered and celebrated.
When I choose to focus on the things that aren’t working well or that could potentially go wrong, I become fearful and unsure of myself. When viewing the world through this kind of lens, opportunities that bring joy don’t come as often or easily.
When I choose to look at my life and intentionally acknowledge all of the things I am grateful for, I feel uplifted. All of the sudden the things that may seem heavy or aren’t going the way I hope, seem to pale in comparison to all that I have to be grateful for.
It feels good to move the focus away from the things we wish were better or different. When we take a moment to pause and look at the many reasons, big and small, for why we are grateful, it’s so much easier to continue recognizing the good we are surrounded by.
Engaging in a regular ritual of counting our blessings is an empowering and simple thing to do. Some people have gratitude journals where they list the reasons they are grateful. Others choose a time in their day to give silent thanks. Some find it helpful to come to this place through mediation, exercise, yoga or prayer etc. The best part is it doesn’t have to be complicated and your methods and reasons for being grateful are yours by design. Have fun.
