Confidence Booster Series: Recharge
“There is more to life than increasing its speed.” – Mahatma Gandhi
This week’s focus is to carve out some time and space to slow down, relax, and recharge your batteries.
It can be exciting to accomplish goals, create full days of fun and push your limits. I believe it’s also important to balance this level of drive and energy with some ‘down time’ where you are able to fully relax and just be. Running at a high speed all of the time without a break can create exhaustion. When we don’t make time to take it easy, even the simplest things and interactions can become overwhelming.
I recently had the chance to spend a couple of days at a friend’s cabin with all of our kids. Normally being around the high energy of young ones, means we end up matching their pace and must also run at their speed. However, this didn’t end up being the case and my experience there reminded me how important it is to slow down and take time to truly relax.
We were in a secluded area and it was set up so that our kids were able to have the freedom to just be kids. They played on the beach, made sandcastles, searched for beach glass and built forts made out of driftwood. They played with each other and had an absolute blast.
Our kids were completely entertained and happy and this opened up the opportunity for the adults to actually ‘relax. We were in a setting where there wasn’t much else to do but kick back, so we had guilt free ‘down time’ that ended up being so refreshing and eye-opening.
I am always amazed at how rejuvenated I feel after I take a break. When I am recharged, I feel better about myself. When we are rested and confident, we are able to accomplish everyday life stuff with greater ease. A much better alternative than constantly pushing our limits and running on overdrive towards burnout.
So this week, create your own version of what relaxation looks like. Find some time and space to slow down and do as little as possible. If a getaway is not within your reach at the moment, carve out a few hours where you can do nothing but unwind and take care of yourself, you deserve it.
