Confidence Booster Series: Patience
This week’s focus is to practice the art of patience. It isn’t always an easy or natural mindset to adopt in a fast paced life. I have become accustomed to juggling many different things at once and can find it a real challenge to practice patience when things aren’t unfolding the way I planned.
When I get too hung up on the details of a situation, it becomes more challenging to accept things when they take longer or don’t turn out the way I hoped. Then there is the added insult of feeling bad for acting impatient. It’s inevitable that things do eventually have an outcome one way or another. This outcome will happen whether we choose to be patient or impatient.
I believe patience is like a leap of faith. It’s the act of not pushing quite so hard. I find that the more ‘impatient’ I am, the more likely I am to give up on whatever it is I’m waiting for or hoping will happen. When I remind myself to slow down and be patient, I am more likely to keep moving forward toward a dream/goal.
There is a feeling of empowerment that comes when we practice being patient and trust that things will work out the way they are supposed to. Releasing the need to control things is liberating. It has helped me to feel confident that I can handle whatever comes my way, however long it may take. This mindset can apply to so many different things, it could be in career, relationships, health, etc.
When we can let go of the need for things to be a particular way, life becomes so much simpler. We are less likely to be so hard on ourselves if we aren’t under as much pressure. There is always the added bonus of feeling good that we didn’t lose our patience with others or with ourselves.
Being patient with ourselves is a gift of compassion and a powerful way to boost self-confidence. I definitely recommend giving yourself permission to loosen the grip on life a little. Slow down and take the leap of faith into patience. Have a wonderful week, however it may unfold.
