Confidence Booster Series: Healthy Choices
Life doesn’t happen to us, it happens from us
This week’s focus is to strive to make healthy choices in regards to what we feed our bodies.
I feel very fortunate to live in a community where clean water and healthy food choices are readily available and accessible. In saying that, I also find it extremely disheartening that the food supply for many people around the world is scarce. Not everyone has the opportunity to ‘choose’ when and how they will nourish their bodies.
It’s interesting that many of us who do have the luxury of choosing how to feed our bodies, still end up making poor choices that negatively impact our health. What we put into our bodies has a noticeable effect on how we feel and influences our overall well-being. I certainly am not claiming to be an expert in the area of nutrition and do not wish to judge others for their dietary choices, as it’s personal. I’m just a curious person by nature and given that I’m the only chef in our household, I feel I have a huge responsibility to provide the healthiest options I can for my family.
What I do know is that when I consciously choose ingredients that are healthy, whole and alive I feel good because my body feels happy. I also feel fulfilled to know that my family is receiving nutritious fare that will support their health and help them feel good.
It seems like such a simple thing, but knowledge is power and I do find that when I make informed choices to feed my body well, I feel more comfortable in my skin, my mood feels lighter and I end up feeling more confident. The same is true for when I don’t make good food choices. My mood is negatively impacted, I don’t sleep as well and my overall confidence isn’t as strong. When given the opportunity to choose, it has become natural for me to select the healthiest option possible as I know it will make me feel the best in the long run.
Lately with our warm weather, we have been able to enjoy fresh greens and other delicious food straight from our garden. There is something so satisfying in hand picking the ingredients for meal time. If you don’t have a garden, perhaps a visit to a local farmer’s market is another option that may be possible. Learning more about where our food supply comes from is a great motivator to make informed decisions on how we choose to eat.
This week, have some fun experimenting with what you eat and see how it impacts your mood and confidence. You may be surprised to experience how rewarding and fulfilling it can be to make conscious choices in regards to your health. Food is not only an essential need, it can also provide an opening for creativity and enjoyable social gatherings. Enjoying nutritious food with loved ones is definitely one of my favorite pastimes. Have fun creating your health this week, Bon Appétit!
